Volunteer Information

Volunteers and the Lutheran Community Care Centre

The Lutheran Community Care Centre is organizationally based on volunteers. Members of the Board of Directors and its committees serve on a voluntary basis.

To accomplish the agency's mission statement, a range of services - some best done by staff and some by trained volunteers - have been and will continue to be developed under the direction of the Board of Directors. Through their involvement, volunteers have the opportunity to make personal contributions to the goals of the agency and to receive personal satisfaction and growth through their experiences.

Orientation, training and on-going support is provided in each of the volunteer areas.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Lutheran Community Care Centre has plenty of opportunities available for people to volunteer for. There is something available for just about anyone who would like to get involved.

Would you like to share your time with an individual with a developmental disability? We are currently looking for energetic and fun people who have some spare time and enjoy:

• Kayaking
• Gardening
• Playing cards
• Going for coffee
• Rock climbing
• Bike riding
• Antique cars
• Crafts (knitting, ceramics)
• Baking
• Going to the gym
• Exercise buddy
• Singing or playing an instrument for the Circle of Friends Choir
• And plenty of other activities!

Whatever your hobbies and interested, someone we know would enjoy sharing them with you.

The Lutheran Community Care Centre relies on fundraising events to assist in the delivery of several of its services. The events include:

• Strawberry Festival - mid July
• Harvest Festival - late September
• Dinner & Silent Auction - February/March

Within these events, there are many volunteer opportunities:

• Ticket Sales
• Set Up/Serving
• Craft & Bake Table
• Strawberry Pickers/Cleaners
• Shortcake or Pie Assembly
• Ice Cream Scoopers
• Table Clean Up and Final Clean Up
• Barbecuing
• Kitchen Keepers
• Children's Crafts or Activities
• Donations of crafts, baking, preserves, flowers, plants and vegetables
• Master of Ceremonies
• Coordinator
• Host/Hostess
• Runners
• Decorating Helpers
• Donation Helpers
• Advertising and Public Relation Helpers
• Knitters of mittens, toques, etc. for Christmas parties

In addition to the special events that happen during the year, there is always a need for volunteers to help out weekly or monthly (only a few hours a week).

Social Services Program

Needed: Friendly Visitor

Clerical Program

Needed: Assistance with mailings: folding, collating, and stuffing envelopes on an occasional basis.
